Does your dog love chicken treats?

Are you nervous to buy them with all the crazy news past and present in regards to the store bought chicken treats from China and how unhealthy they are for your dogs. Did you find a brand you really love, but you find it expensive?  Find out how to make your own chicken treats for your dog.

I did a quick search and there are a couple of recipes that interested me but the one I liked the best was limited in ingredients. This DIY recipe only requires two ingredients.  Can you believe that you can make great healthy treats with just chicken breast and olive oil? I modified the original receipe and I watch my local food store flyers for chicken breast on sale. I love that my dog gets to eat real chicken with no fillers or artifical substances.

    Instruction for DIY Chicken Treats:

Step 1: Preheat oven to 200 degrees.

Step 2: Remove any excess fat from the chicken.

Step 3: Slice the chicken breast into 1/8 inch thick strips.

Step 4: Place the chicken strips on a baking sheet and brush with olive oil

Step 5: Bake for 2 hours.

At about 2 hours check the chicken before removing from the oven. It should be dry and hard, not soft or chewy. Allow the chicken to cool completely before serving.

You can store the chicken jerky in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two weeks.

Fun furry note: You can substitute sweet potatoes for the chicken in this recipe. Sweet potatoes make a healthy, vegetarian alternative.
