Welcome to

    Have a look around!

People believe that dogs kiss us as a sign of affection they learned from their mom as a puppy. Others believe, a dog kisses because she is simply letting you know that she's glad to see you or maybe because she is hungry and asking for food. This has been a debate for many years. Some pet lovers believe that dogs kissing or lickin their face is fine and actually love the attention. On the other side of the debate, some pet lovers believe that there is an "ick" factor in letting your dog kiss you and even believe you can get sick from a dogs kiss.

Leaving pets locked in cars is never safe. But when the weather gets warmer, it can be deadly. High temperatures can cause irreparable organ damage and even death. Protecting animals from an unnecessary death is a problem we can all agree to prevent.

This dog was left in the car with a note. Do we think this is a good idea?

How to help a pet left in a hot car

    1.  Take down the car's make, model and license plate number.

    2.  If there are businesses nearby, contact the managers or security guards and request they make an announcement to find the car's owner.

    3.  If the owner isn't located, call the non-emergency number of the local police or animal control and wait by the car for them to arrive. In several states good Samaritans can legally remove animals from cars under certain circumstances, so be sure to know the laws in your area and follow any steps required.

Remember, at 70 degrees on a sunny day, after a half hour, the temperature inside a car is approximately 104 degrees. After an hour, it can reach up to 113 degrees. When temperatures outside range from 80 degrees to 100 degrees, the temperature inside a car parked in direct sunlight can quickly climb to between 130 to 172.”

Many dogs suffer from the fear of thunder.  Allie, our Boston Terrier, sometimes trembles and shakes, she sometimes even hides under the beds and furniture. Emma, our pug, on the other hand howls , barks and pants. Some dogs have even been known to flee in storms. Dogs have been known to break out of yards and run away not knowing where they are going. They can destroy walls, gates, doors and furniture in their fear to escape the noise of the storm. During a storm their anxiety and stress levels are very high.  We have found that by wrapping our dogs in a blanket, think swaddling a baby, or a snug fitting garment relieves much of their anxiety and stress. They even love to cuddle and be held. The idea is to apply constant pressure over a large part of their body. It reduces their stress and anxiety immensely. However, we have found at times, we just can't be there to provide that calming effect.  So we started searching to see what others are doing.

The Bichon Frise (pronounced BEE-shawn FREE-say; the plural is Bichons Frises) is a small dog breed who tends to be cheerful, with a love of mischief and a lot of love to give. With her black eyes and fluffy white coat, the Bichon looks almost like a child’s toy.
